of past reviews Norm's Point Pub is Somers Point's newest dining room. The pub has been in existence for many years but Chef Norman Price is a recent addition. He took over the kitchen in the middle of June and has received an enthusiastic reception. He is formerly of Caesars Italian Restaurant in Mays Landing and has a loyal following. When the Cesario family sold the restaurant, Chef Norm took advantage of the opportunity to lease the kitchen at the Point Pub. On the night of our review meal, all the tables were taken which speaks for itself. The dinner menu offers something for everyone with a nice selection of Italian specialties, pub fare and seafood. The appetizers are priced from $3.95 to $9.95 with many good choices. I had the pleasure of dining with my parents, Bea and Marty Odlen, who split the Crabmeat Cocktail and enjoyed it very much. The crab was fresh and delicate and the portion size was ample. Other good choices included Roasted Peppers and Provolone, Mozzarella Sticks and Stuffed Mushrooms filled with sausage and cheese, to name just a few. The entrees include a choice of soup or salad. My parents both ordered the soup du jour, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and thought it was excellent. It was filled with chopped clams and fresh vegetables and the broth had just the right touch of tomato. Chicken Escarole was another good option. The Italian specialties are priced from $8.25 to $16.95. Norm's Homemade Lasagna is a popular selection. Penne Vodka also sounded good prepared with shrimp in a blush cream sauce. If you like it spicy, the Shrimp Fra Diavolo is for you. Linguine with Crabmeat, Veal Milanaise and Veal and Chicken Parmesan were also available. In the seafood section you'll find Blackened or Grilled Salmon ($13.95), Deviled Crab ($15.95) and Crab Imperial ($18.95) which is one of Chef Norm's specialties. My mother opted for Fried Shrimp ($13.95) and raved about it. This featured five jumbo shrimp which were lightly battered and deep fried. The menu hosts a good selection of char-broiled steaks and chops including a 10oz. Filet Mignon ($16.95), a 12oz. New York Sirloin ($16.95), Rib Eye Steak ($12.95), Pork Chops ($12.95) and a 12oz. Veal Chop ($18.95). On weekends they serve Prime Rib, both Queen Cut and King Cut. My father and I both chose the Grilled Marinated Chicken Breast ($12.95) which was very tasty. It was served with a baked potato and a medley of fresh vegetables. The specials of the evening included Eggplant Parmesan ($8.95), Fried Soft Shell Crabs ($14.95), Salmon Stuffed with Crab Imperial ($18.95), Chicken Cacciatore ($13.95) and Chicken Francaise ($13.95) which is another specialty of Chef Norm. We passed on dessert but I am always tempted by Italian Rum Cake and if you really want to indulge yourself they serve Chocolate Mousse Cake drizzled with caramel. Norm's Point Pub is an attractive restaurant with two dining rooms, smoking and non-smoking and a bar and lounge. They're open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and early birds are featured Monday through Friday. There's a children's menu as well which makes it a great spot for the entire family. You'll feel comfortable in their cozy atmosphere and the food is fresh and cooked to order. We had a great dinner with service to match.
