The Showboat hotel and casino is located on
the Boardwalk at Delaware Ave. Its the last casino in the stretch that reaches into
the questionable inlet of Atlantic City. Harrahs recently purchased Showboat, but no
major changes have resulted from the merger. The Mississippi River boat theme still exists
(the frontage looks just like a paddle wheel riverboat) complete with authentic-looking
design and live performances.
The Showboat doesnt have any headline
entertainment, but they do have continuous live (and free) performances at the New Orleans
Square Bandstand located near the Boardwalk entrance. Another attraction at the Showboat
is the Mardi Gras Cats, an animatronic band of cats. This seven-piece band of computerized
musicians cost $3.1 million to assemble, but they perform daily and the litter box stays
clean.
Gaming at Showboat consists mainly of slots,
but there are usually enough table games too. Its a combination of slots and
bingo that can result in some large payouts.
